Sound / Phoneme Keys for Phonetic Codes
The phonetic codes in Code Reader books use a limited number of graphemes or “sound keys” to represent the phonemes used in pronouncing words. The link below will download a PDF list of all the phonetic sound keys used in the books. Teachers and parents can review these sound keys with students to help them in reading the codes for the challenging words.
Code Reader books assume a certain level of decoding skill, as well as some knowledge of irregular and high-frequency words. There are two levels of Code Reader books, the Green Level Series and the Blue Level Series. Each level can be identified by a green or blue logo on the cover. You can use the links below to view and download information that can be helpful in determining which Series Level is best for your students.
